Mount Vernon feels so far away yet in terms of days and miles, I really haven’t

Wishing you all the best for another celebration of your birth. Have a great time with Paul and Shan this evening.
New subject: A fellow I used to work with liked to tell jokes around the brai (bbq). There’s one that I remember and it seems to have relevance to my journal entries on this site so far. I probably won’t give it the flair he was able to deliver it with, but I trust the point Well, here it is Sunday evening, Mother’s Day. Tomorrow was departure day. Was. Too much left undone before heading out.
It seems preparation has been an accumulation of yet more stuff. After all the climbs I’ve been on, it seems a shame to me to have to go out and purchase still more gear. Sleeping bags and tents for example, just how many do I need? Well through the years they have gotten lighter and now down sleeping bags are water resistant. A new tent because old nylon begins to smell pretty bad after awhile. Approximately 5 weeks sleeping in an off-gassing, wind beaten “shelter” is going to be taxing at best. And to think, my dear wife Kathy has recently renewed our indoor bed set-up with a very comfortable memory foam mattress. Just what am I thinking anyway? Where, when. What in the world for?
Perfectly good questions, the answers are simple: To Colorado, leave Monday, May 14, 2018, for my granddaughter's four and 1/2 year birthday party. There may be an adventure included. Perhaps several. |
